Default How to Interface To Edit Text?

Hi..My name is Mike. I am an acupuncturist, a noo-b on design/coding issues, & have a brochure website designed professionally by a company that has gone bankrupt. My former designer with that company, whom is now who know's where, said that once I was online their tech. dept. could teach me how to edit the text, add pics, etc., solely on my own. He said that the only thing I couldn't change would be the graphics without them doing that.
My site's url ends with /index.html but if my designer said I could text edit on my own wouldn't that mean that the text was created with a "wysiwyg" or some other editor thus making the site a sort of a hybrid?
Is it possible to find a new host for my site that can help me interface and edit the text portion through a control panel or something, or do I need to further pay a web designer/programmer to set something up where I can edit it, or even edit any text entirely themselves?
Can anyone recommend any reliable hosts that might have software/hosting packages enabling me to edit the text myself and what might be the terminology(s) described for this feature by the hosting company?
Thank you.
Mike

I am glad you asked, because the same questions occur to me and I have not ever seen a post that supplies the answers. Looking forward to some illuminating comments.
Thanks
