Cool Bad Forum Posts: The 'Feint' and How to Spot One

This is one of my favorite kinds of posts. It's called a 'feint', and I'm currently writing a web article about them in hopes that word will get around and would-be spammers like this noodle head will find themselves noodle-out when using them to promote their sites. I'm hoping that maybe, just maybe they'll have to do as the rest of us have done since the begining -contribute to the ongoing online dialogue if they want those precious backlinks we've heard so much about lately.

You know, it doesn't take much effort to be a little more thoughtful when posting. And it's so much more worth it. You get a lot more clicks, people come to recognize and respect you, and when readers understand what you're saying, believe in what you've said, and find closure for their inquiries, they really can't help but follow through with a click.

But check this out: In brief, a 'feint' is most often a single-line post where the author of the post fakes incompetance in order to draw attention to their link(s). The reason why it's called a 'feint' is because it's really just a vicious attack on your time and sensibilities, disguised as a weakness that delivers the real attack once the victim (the reader) has been emotionally distracted.

I know it's hard to see such a post as an emotional distraction, but this is exactly what they are. And this is why 'feints' are both popular and very effective. Read the above post again and notice how your stumbling over the authors horrible diction makes you feel sorry for the guy. You almost need to help him out, even though you recognize the crude anchor test woven into the link. But this is what he wants. And if you hadn't read this post, it's exactly what he probably would have got.

Another clue, of course, is that the guy is a first-time poster. The point is, however, it doesn't matter. You would have clicked. I mean what's worse than a post you feel sorry for?

I'll tell ya: It's a post you feel sorry for that was writting by a first-timer.

All the best, everyone,
The Lion.

Keep an eye out for the article. I'll be posting around the forums everywhere about it sometime next week. And please stop by my free business directory and submit your sites. There's no paid spots, and priority listing is first-come first-served. Suggest a category, too, and be the first listed in it.
