Getting a pattern to fit.....

I am putting a stencil on a picture to see if it will look good or not. The area I am putting it on is curved and when I apply my pattern it either comes in hoizontally or vertically. Does anyone know how to make it fit a curved face. Or if I should be going about it another way?
