Photoshop and graphic design?

I play around with my Photoshop alot, but people tell me Im really good at what I do to photo's. My friends tell me I should go to graphic design school, but this is just something I like to do when im bored. I am also go for many web site design company site for more knowledge . Does anyone know how big of a role Photoshop plays in the actual field of graphic design?
